Family Visa Qatar Overview

Family visa Qatar is for an expatriate living or working in Qatar who wants to bring his family members to Qatar.

There are 2 types of Qatar family visas:

1. Family Visit Visa

2. Family Residence Visa

Major Criteria for Family visa Qatar

Minimum Income Criteria: Expatriate workers sponsoring family members for residential or temporary visits must have a certain minimum monthly source of income that can meet the minimum needs and accommodation requirements of their family.

In this case, public sector employees or private sector employees must have a minimum salary of QR 10,000 or have company-sponsored accommodation.

Professional Criteria: The sponsor must be a professional, such as a doctor, engineer, managing director, or high-paid worker. Workers cannot sponsor their families due to low wages. Again, laborers who work for higher wages and are able to meet the above salary requirements can sponsor their family members if they wish.

Basically, a Qatari expatriate can bring his family member to Qatar on a family visa only if he can afford to feed and support his family member while there (Qatar).

Documents Required for Qatar Family Visit Visa:

For spouse and children, the following documents are required:
  • Copy of visitor’s passport (minimum validity 6 months)
  • Proof of Relationship (Spouse: Marriage Certificate / Children: Birth Certificate)
  • Round-trip flight ticket.
For other relatives, the following documents are required:
  • Copy of visitor’s passport (minimum validity 6 months)
  • Proof of relationship (birth certificate, passport, etc.)
  • Round-trip flight ticket.
Additional Requirements for Family Visa Qatar

Visa Fee: Qatar’s family visit visa fee is QAR 200 for 30 days. The visa can be extended for another 30 days up to 5 months by paying an additional fee of QAR 200 per month.

Validity: The initial family visit visa in Qatar is valid for 30 days. Visa can be extended up to five months for children and spouses and up to 90 days for other relatives.

Entry: Visa holders can enter Qatar within 90 days of visa approval. The last entry date will be given on the visa.

Extension: Visa can be extended by paying QAR 200 per month. Extension must be done before the visa expires.

Health Check: A visa extension requires a medical check-up, which costs QAR 100.

Penalty for overstaying: The penalty for overstaying is QR 200 per day

Family Residence Visa Requirements in Qatar Include:

Valid Qatar ID: Sponsors must have a valid Qatari ID to sponsor family members.

Minimum Monthly Salary: Minimum wage requirements vary depending on occupation, employment sector and whether the employer provides housing. It can range from QAR 6,000 to QAR 15,000 per month if accommodation is provided by the employer.

Eligible Occupations for Sponsorship: Some occupations, especially those classified as “labor”, may have restrictions on the sponsorship of family members.

Fulfill all documentation requirements: These include marriage certificates, birth certificates, salary certificates, tenancy agreements and more.

Health Insurance: All family visa applicants are now required to have health insurance coverage for the entire duration of their dependents’ visit to Qatar.

Age Limit: There is no age limit applying for a family visit visa in Qatar, but male children must be under 25 years of age and there is no age limit for females unless they are married.

Other requirements: The sponsor must be a direct relative of the sponsoring applicant (a parent, sibling, sister-in-law, child, spouse, or parent-in-law, subject to MOI approval).
